Former Kennedy Center Arts Curator Details 'Cronyism, Incompetence, and Bizarre Moves' Amidst Trump Takeover
www.broadwayworld.com: The Kennedy Center has been a hot topic for the past year after the Trump administration took over leadership. Beginning with the removal of board members and Donald Trump assuming the role of chairman in 2025, the institution has faced ongoing restructuring, artist withdrawals, leadership departures, and programming shifts. It was also recently announced that the institution will shut down operations for two years to undergo renovations.

Yeah I mean aren’t all of Trump's actions “Cronyism, Incompetence, and Bizarre?” This isn’t different, nor was it really expected that this would be different. The second I heard it would become the Trump run kennedy center, I knew it was getting not just bombed, but nuked, with stupid decisions. It doesn’t shock me how crazy he is internally, at all. All his decisions has been rath and uncalled for, not normal and necessary. Closing it for 2 years did not surprise me, him renaming it did not surprise me, nothing surprises me with his actions. Even the removals and him wanting full control did not surprise me. Just look what he did with Doge, it caused a shit show that still isn’t resolved nor will probably ever be resolved. Look what he did with his own leaders in the government, they act weird to him once or speak against him even a little, they’re gone the next day. This mans normal is bizarre.
Once again there is a blatant misuse of power happening. The fact that so many people are losing jobs and the amount of censorship that is happening is disgusting. Trying to “get rid” of the art collection for most likely no reason other than they want to flex their power and they do not like the amount of culture that is amongst the art makes me incredibly upset. All of what is happening at the Kennedy Center makes me incredibly upset. There is so much happening that we are not seeing so when the things that we are seeing, like the renaming and take over of the Kennedy Center, are not hiding their censorship means that there are so many worse things happening that we do not know about. People who lost their jobs being offered to get more benefits if they signed confidentiality agreements is crazy because that means they know what they are doing is wrong and do not want people talking about it.
I see the title of the article, then I let out a sigh. At least people are not referring to it by its new name, but instead reverting to the Kennedy Center or the former Kennedy Center. While it is very upsetting and disheartening, this news is unfortunately not new. It has been happening for too long, unfortunately, and it seems like these articles are getting repetitive. However, I do believe that it is important to bring light to these continuing issues rather than just not documenting them because they are becoming all too common. What’s crazy to me is that they’re going to shut down for two years. That is so incredibly dangerous because those are two years of lost talent, lost teaching, lost jobs, and even more. Unfortunately, the arts are already sitting in a precarious position, and to take away such opportunities will be seriously detrimental to the community. Just because it is normal for us to see this occurring, does not mean that we should sit back and accept it.
