I have not worked with lasers before in any capacity. I think they would be super fun additions to my lighting skill set and be able to work with lasers in a live event setting for a concert or something of that nature. I have seen a lot of laser work in music scenes and with festivals. I am looking to start getting more into this work specifically, so learning anything I can about what I might encounter is vital. What is the main selling point of this laser line is their portability. They are super compact and provide great control over the laser for such small units. I think this would apply great to theatre and other scenarios. Often there is the issue of being able to see the light or it being in the way of something else. Because they are so small, it will minimize these issues a lot more than any other laser product. I would love to get some at some point or find them in the wild to see how they look in person.
I am so excited about this. I love cubes. Cubes are such an excellent platonic solid and I really like platonic solids so that’s saying something. If I was going to start a brand of specialized laser systems I would also make them cubes. Naming your product after a shape which it also is is also so great because it’s instantly recognizable and very memorable. I was just thinking the other day that I wish I could get my hands on some fun laser equipment. Obviously that’s not super within our scope here since the place it would make the most sense to live is the Wells, and the Wells is probably not big enough for lasers to be safe. It’s also interesting to see that this line of products is not only able to operate from DMX control but also from ILDA which allows for connection to “professional laser show software.”
I was hoping to learn more about laser lighting through this article, but laser seems like a buzzword just to get an audience’s attention. It certainly caught my attention! I would also go as so far to say that the word cube is a buzzword, as Julian above me has spent a whole paragraph rambling about the “platonic solid.”
I looked further into Laserworld’s website, and i couldn’t find much information on “laser light.” From my understanding, a laser is a light that is monochromatic, so it has a small bandwidth. But lasers still can have divergence, so it begs the question how much can a light split until it is not considered a laser?
I think the marketing of this product is its best attribute! Of course, I haven’t tried it out, but i can’t imagine its “battery life” is that drastically better than its competitors. It has cute imagery, and as Julian wrote, “naming your product after a shape which it also is is so great because it’s instantly recognizable and very memorable.”
