Fifty metre monument mapping calibrated in 15 minutes

AV Magazine: To mark Bulgaria’s National Holiday on 3 March, MP-Studio delivered a large-scale projection mapping installation titled “Memory” at the Defenders of Stara Zagora Memorial Complex. The 50-metre monument—featuring sculptural elements including the Samara Flag and figures representing the defenders of Stara Zagora—was transformed into a dynamic audiovisual narrative, where content appeared to emerge directly from the structure itself.

Projection mapping is something that I have been really interested in recently. It is something that I have learned very little of but would like to learn more about how it works. I have seen videos online about ways that people have done projection mapping in really cool ways. People have mapped it to their toilet, bookshelves, home walls and more. All of this is unconventional places for projection and digital art. In this scenario the surface is incredibly huge. I was super untested by their use of drone rendering to build a copy of the surface in a software that they could manipulate and work with. I would love to learn more about this kind of technology they used and how it could be applied to many different scenarios. Specifically, theatre which can have many different weird surfaces and shapes that need to be figured out. I think this kind of technology could really help video media designers in their workflow and speed of process.
