This haptic mattress topper lets you feel a movie while you fall asleep
The Verge: Woojer is best known for its vibrating vests and belt straps that let you feel the sounds from games, movies, and music. Now the company has taken that same haptic technology and incorporated it into a new mattress topper called the Woojer Mat that will let you feel those same vibrations across your entire body to make what you’re watching or playing feel more immersive.

When I saw this article's title, I was instantly so excited to learn more about this new mattress product. I think including other senses in an experience is one of the best ways to enhance art or any experience. I love when art thinks about the different senses of the audience, like using texture to affect their sense of touch. So the idea that you can feel the movie, game, or any video you are watching is such a cool idea. I expected the mattress topper to be expensive. It is currently selling for $700, as cool as this product is I am not sure if it is worth spending $700 on. I suspect that the main customers will be rich people who have the money to spare and spend 700 dollars on a moving mattress topper. I find it interesting that they are marketing this product as something that helps with stress and anxiety and better for your health instead of marketing it as an entertainment product.
I never really thought I would see a haptic mattress before, but it makes sense. There are people who enjoy watching their movies in 4DX, though I am not one of those people. I feel it will allow people watching their movies to experience something similar to 4DX. I also like how it can work with anything that creates sound. I know that would help people with falling asleep and pain relief. This bed mattress seems to really have a lot more benefits. Hopefully, I can come across someone’s personal experience and review of the mattress to learn more about it. I mainly want to know more about how it helps people relax, because personally, I see that it is kind of annoying to lay down on a constantly vibrating bed. However, I do think it would allow me to watch movies or play any video games with a new twist.
I need this now. I don’t care if it's kinda stupid and pointless, I need it. This is like everything I’ve ever dreamed of. I usually, when I’m not dead under the heavy foot of college, kill my schedule with another extracurricular activity in which I use VR to tell stories with my friends. Usually, this is really late at night, so in the past, I used to lie on my bed or the floor while I played if I wasn’t using my full body for whatever reason. This mattress would have been so incredible to have and honestly I might start saving for it when I’m in a better financial situation. This along with my phantom sense could actually be an incredibly immersive experience and I would be so excited to get to go through it. The only possible downside is that it may enhance my phantom sense which would be good initially, but it also means my phantom pain would get worse and that is not good because some of these stories are violent and I have had experiences where I’ve had to take off the headset and pause due to phantom pain from being hurt in the story.
Based on the title of the article, I was under the impression that this was going to be some sort of mattress that was programmed to respond to certain moments in a movie in certain ways, in the same way that a 4D movie chair does, and this was going to inspire some sort of new trend where movie theatres with recliners will eventually become movie theaters with beds or something like that. Evidently, this haptic mattress topper is less about enhancing the movie watching experience, and more about its specific vibration patterns programmed in the app, and the fact that it can be plugged into anything as though it is a pair of headphones, to turn whatever into vibrations is kind of a side effect. One big thing that really stood out to me was the size of the haptic mattress topper. Slightly smaller than a twin mattress is a size really only comfortable for toddlers.
