5 Biggest Music Sustainability Stories of 2025: Merch, Festivals, More

www.billboard.com: On a federal policy level, 2025 was a nightmare year for the environment. The Trump administration’s proposals have included the rollback of protections on millions of acres of wetlands and streams; the allowance of new oil and gas drilling across 1.3 billion acres of U.S. coastal waters; the pausing of the expansion of clean energy infrastructure; withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Climate Accord for the second time; and more.

This article leaves me feeling honestly very sad. It kind of just listed set back after setback, and bad news after more bad news. I think it's overall just absolutely diabolical how Trump has pulled the US out of the Paris climate accord not once, but twice. It's just a comically evil activity. This being said, I think it's great how a lot of artists are seeing what they can do to lessen the harm that's being caused. People often underestimate just how awful worldwide tours are for the environment because it isn't just about flying the artist and their team around. I'll never forget learning about Taylor Swift's era's tour, and how harmful it was for the environment. It's nice to know that some artists care. I also think it's great to put in an effort to make merch more sustainable, considering how much of it doesn't sell and how cheaply made it is.
