Hollywood Insiders Unite to Launch Creators Coalition on AI
www.hollywoodreporter.com: As Hollywood continues to grapple with the threat and adoption of AI, a group of 18 industry insiders have banded together to form the Creators Coalition on AI. The effort, a first of its kind, is backed by the signatures of more than 500, a diverse list growing by the hour that includes Oscar winners, filmmakers, show runners, writers, below-the-line talent and creative professionals from all corners of the business.

I think this is a great idea, and would benefit existing unions greatly by acting as a uniting force between them. I am wondering about the potential cost - would this limit union freedom to push for stronger action individually? The Creators Coalition on AI, according to their plans, will act as a council to determine best practices from the view of the worker on artificial intelligence’s use in the film industry. Their pillars sound promising and I wonder what concrete change this coalition can do in accordance with them. I think their call to action is the most impactful statement they’ve made so far - the conversation with artificial intelligence can’t be stuck between corporation and worker, it has to be on how to do it right, rather than silicon valley’s trite and shallow statement. I agree in that it shouldn’t be an ultimate rejection of AI that the coalition fights for, but rather a system of protections for the means of production and for the common worker.
