I like the idea of ‘easter eggs’, but truly this is just good branding. A consistent reminder to varying extents is a smart way to keep an audience engaged. The detail orientation is something that I respect deeply. Multisensory elements are fun to think about to really make or break an environment and an audience’s experience within it. I’m really intrigued by the dual activations tactic and am wondering how it could apply in a theatrical world that isn’t immersive. I wish the article expanded on this point in a non-horror setting. Tactic six, ‘authentic set designs’, is true of all elements of theatrical design: authenticity is key, and one must trust that an audience can tell that which is not. The tenth tactic, ‘fan feedback’, is critical in any entertainment situation. If the design works, if the performance works, and if it all works together, is audience determined. To get direct recommendations from audience members is useful to pivot or to solidify.
