ADI delivers a bigger, bolder light show on an F1 racetrack

AV Magazine: Creative production and live event specialist ADI has delivered a full-throttle, festive makeover at Silverstone Circuit – featuring giant candy canes, dancing elves, and one of the world’s longest light shows. With the circuit relaunching Lap of Lights to be bigger, brighter and bolder than ever before, ADI conceptualised, installed and delivered the UK’s only immersive, two-mile light trail on a racetrack.

This looks crazy cool. I am not a huge F1 fan, but from an outsider’s perspective, this is a large scale operation with a lot of moving parts (and a lot of self indulgent spectacle lighting fun). I enjoy the holiday theme involved, too. I wonder what the scale really was in terms of monetary budget, labor, time, geography, etc. Gamification activations are really interesting, and remind me of another article I read about having multiple audience activations available per each installation or environment. I think immersivity is a really interesting entertainment trend, and I’m wondering where it’s headed, and why it is so prevalent now. Tanya Cash’s statement (as head of public events at Silverstone) regarding storytelling is the crux of this article to me: the spectacle of it all is used to fuel a story and experience. I took the opportunity to look a little further in ADI’s collaboration with Silverstone, and found that they have a multi-year contract that was extended in 2024, but couldn’t find what the contract states explicitly.
