Discover the Hidden Details in the Rockettes' Costumes That Help Create On-Stage Perfection

Yahoo News Singapore: How to make 36 women look identical? Why, design something for each of them that’s entirely unique, of course. It sounds contradictory, but, in fact, completely individualized costumes are a major factor in creating the precise magic of the Radio City Rockettes. For the latest episode of “Behind the Seams,” and in honor of the Rockettes’ 100th anniversary, InStyle visited iconic NYC landmark Radio City Music Hall to learn a few of the secrets behind one of the most beloved holiday traditions.

As someone who grew up dancing I would always watch the Rockettes and always be truly mesmerized by the high kicks and perfect unison. It wasn't until later that I learned all that went into creating the uniform look behind the scenes. The idea to create perfectly custom costumes allowing each dancer to appear practically the same height is a feat within itself. But it also makes me wonder what would happen if a dress ripped or became damaged before a performance? Would the company keep replicas of each dancer's dress for each number or are they able to create a dress that might not be perfect but will maintain the illusion and could be used by multiple dancers in the company? Either way it is a feat that the wardrobe crew is able to manage and maintain the forever iconic look that the Rockettes have created over the years.
