Survivor Ultimate Fan Café in Boston, Massachusetts

attractionsmagazine.com: Numerous competitors in the series have come from the Boston area, most famously Boston Rob, so a “Survivor”-themed café feels right at home in the neighborhood.

This is cool. Growing up in Boston, many of my friends and I were mildly obsessed with this show. While I haven’t stayed up to date on current seasons I know a lot of people back home who are going to be chomping at the bit to go to this cafe. I like the idea of simplified survivor challenges for attendees to play and I think it adds a lot of fun to the location—cc. One thing I’m not a big fan of is the focus on merchandise and photos. I don’t like buying tchotchke garbage that I’m not going to use more than once and I think this consumer angle of the Survival Ultimate Fate Cafe is a negative for the establishment as a whole. In spite of this, I think Survivor lends itself to this kind of small-scale limited time thing instead of a permanent, themed installation or attraction. I hope this is still open by the time I get back to Boston and that my torch is still lit by then.

I have a few friends who absolutely love Survivor. One of those friends even wrote a Survivor trivia book that you can buy online (https://survivortriviachallenge.com/, if people are interested). When I watched it with them, I was really impressed with the challenges and was very curious about how/who made the courses. Survivor has become more popular (at least I have been seeing more of it, whether that is because my friends finally tried to recruit me to the survivor fan club or if it actually is more popular) in the past few years. I think it’s a really interesting show and I think the cafe will be a good cash grab for the series. I just hope that the cafe is not only a cash grab but actually something made by the fans for the fans. I do think that Boston is the place to have said cafe, there are so many fun restaurants and bars in Boston that I think adding a Survivor themed one will be welcomed by the Bostonians.

I’ve never seen a full episode of Survivor, or really had a strong desire to watch it, however the impact that show had on reality television and competitions is undeniable. The concept of everyone doing challenges and then voting each other off is such a simple, yet entertaining concept. I also love the idea of it taking place on an island, which makes it feel less like a normal game you could play at home and more like a challenge. Because of this, I think a Survivor themed restaurant is a wonderful idea. It combines the island-like feel with actual interactive games (something that most themed restaurants don’t seem to prioritize). Because of the concept of the show itself, it provides the audience with an experience that they can’t recreate at home easily without spending more than they would simply going to the café. This is a pretty cool marketing strategy and I would love to see more themes cafés based on different TV shows and movies.

I think this is a really great way not only for advertising, but for engagement too. I don't think I have ever seen an episode of Survivor, but I know the basics about the show. I think that this pop-up bar and attraction is a really cool way to create engagement for the show. I personally would not want to go on the show due to multiple reasons (Out on a random island, bugs, challenges that determine if you stay, live TV, etc.), but it would be cool to be able to do some of these challenges while grabbing a bite to eat. This interactive attraction is a great way to see what it would be like to compete in the shows without the actual stressors of being on the show. The idea of also including food and drinks in this venue that are themed to the show is a great way to get more people interested in this limited location.

Aa someone who was born and raised in the great city of boston, this article immediately caught my eye for that sole reason. After reading it I think that the idea of small possibly shorter term, installations like this are super cool, and a great way of marketing. First of all, stuff like this exists to be posted about online, and it works. Secondly people walk by the outside and are curious about it, or it makes lists of "top 10 things to do in boston this weekend" lists and then people visit and are reminded "oh yeah I should watch survivor". I also think that boston is a great place for a thing like this, the city has a good amount of tourists, and a good number of interesting food experiences, but it's not overrun with weird corporate cash grabs like some other places are. I might have to pay this place a visit next time I'm home.

I absolutely love the idea of a Survivor cafe! Before I read the article, I was thinking of how you might tie cafe food into the whole Survivor theme, and immediately thought of those challenges that awarded the winner or winners a trip to huge feasts. But I also feel that so often these prizes are different types of food, and almost never the same thing twice. The article touched a bit on their menu, and it seems to focus more on foods considered tropical, with a common base of rice similar to the actual show. I also think the idea of giving customers the chance to try out famous Survivor challenges is exciting, but from the photos it seems to be rather crowded. The atmosphere seems akin to the crowded mini golf places inside a mall, which is not really what Survivor reminds me of. Hopefully this is just because it just opened up, and that it has a more chill vibe in the coming months.
