'Hamilton' team protests after church production adds Christian themes

The Arts | phillytrib.com: Lawyers for the creators of “Hamilton,” the record-setting musical that remains a worldwide draw seven years after its Broadway debut, protested after a Texas church put on an unauthorized production this weekend. Church performers changed some lyrics and introduced Christian themes that were not part of the original.

Previously I read the article of this church apologizing for this production, and it's fascinating seeing how what they claim to know about said copyright laws changed from this point to now. Not to mention the outright lying they started with by claiming that the rights had been obtained or explicit permission had been given despite not being available to anyone yet. Now they claim they didn't know about copyright and are using this as a lesson in creative licensing.

I'm glad to see the Hamilton team stand up for what they believe in—especially knowing how LGBT-friendly they are and that the church was trying explicitly to be homophobic in their sermon at the show's end.

I also wonder if this was an entirely white church and if they thought that mattered when deciding to do Hamilton, which has an entire cast of POC actors.
