www.intermissionmagazine.ca: The Dora Mavor Moore Awards — named after the pioneering Canadian actress, director, and teacher — celebrate the best of Toronto theatre. This year’s awards will take place on Monday, September 19 at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre at 7:30 PM EST.

I do not follow the theatre industry and award nominations as closely as most. I follow the Tony’s, the Emmy’s and the Oscar’s pretty well during the season, but I often overlook or don’t know about other awards like the Dora Mavor Moore Awards. I was intrigued when I found this article and my curiosity for other productions increased as I read more about the shows listed and their nominations. Shows like Sweeney Todd and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child are ones that I have always wanted to see, so it’s encouraging and exciting to see that they are nominated for so many different awards, including outstanding costume design, outstanding lighting design and outstanding direction, just to name a few. To know that there are different awards out there, with different productions ranging from all different areas and sizes, is exciting and helps increase my curiosity to explore other types of theatre and theatre outlets.
