How to Paint a Wood Table

This Old House: Mauro Henrique demonstrates how to refinish an old piece of furniture with the help of Kevin O’Connor. Mauro’s client has a table that belonged to her grandmother and she would like to spruce it up so it can come out of the basement and be showcased in her home.

I get why this was posted here (because we are going to have to repaint furniture for shows) but i was so excited to see this because I've been thinking about flipping old furniture from craigslist for a while now. I absolutely love the udea of doing something like that for fun, but i dont have the supplies or space at the moment. Im surprised that they didnt use lacquer thinner, denatured alcohol, or varnish or paint remover to remove the coat of paint. I would think sanding every inch of it would be alot harder thsn just scraping off the softened paint. Because they have strong fumes? Maybe because it would damage the wood? I dont think thats true so thats the only thing I would do differently than what thye did. Also, if its good wood underneath, ill opt for a stain most of the time, unless its a specific design choice. Its a shame to cover nice wood grain with paint.

Painting and reigniting the character in old furniture is one of my favorite things to do as a designer. There is something so interesting about an antique piece that you are able to give new life through a little bit of paint and care. Articles and videos like this are so informative for getting your foot in the door of creating new furniture, and I think there is a lot that one could learn by seeing tutorials like this one. I have always loved watching HGTV and seeing the different ways that designers can epicycle old wood and furniture as a base for an entire aesthetic for a room or house, and create a space with an old piece at the center. This inspires me to get my foot back in the game of painting and reimagining the furniture in my house. I am eyeing you, dining room table! You will not have white legs for long.
