I chose this article since I went to high school at Indiana (although there was nothing special about Indiana in this article I guess). I agree with the author saying that it is especially tricky for theater-related jobs to make benefits as performances are often large-scale compared to the other industries such as restaurants, since I think theater businesses are often high-investment high-return system. Reading this short article helped me broaden my ideas in both realistic and mindful direction. First it let me realize that as many other industries in the societies are, theater was in fact deeply related to city budget as well. Before reading this article, I mainly focused on the chain within the industry such as actors, designers, technicians, etc. Knowing that the city grants and tex revenues were also engaged makes sense, but was kind of new to me. Also, when the author said “for many, the work is about more than just the money,” it brought me deep admiration towards people who are still sticking to their unstable jobs. I really hope the theater to bounce back once the pandemic season gets to an end.
