Hungary's students are making a last stand against Viktor Orbán’s power grab
Hungary | The Guardian: As I write, the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest (SZFE) is being occupied by its students and staff. It is the latest battle, and possibly last stand, against the Hungarian government’s attempt to seize power in independent institutions of all sorts, including cultural ones.

I think what the Hungarian government is doing to their university-level institutions is absolutely horrifying. Although everyone does have a right to primary and secondary education and it is the government’s responsibility to help ensure everyone gets an education, it is unethical for a government institution to force ideology into their universities. This type of dictatorship should be resisted, just as the SZFE students are doing now. Education in the arts does not and is not aligned with promoting any sort of ideology so I don’t understand why the Hungarian government believes that this must change. I hope that somehow other institutions across the country, and across the world, will be able to help the SZFE students protect their right to a proper education.
I am not so familiar with the political situations and current environment of such in Hungary, but I do find this information odd. The privatization of universities is something else. I can’t quite describe the feeling it gives. I am confused. In America, we have both public and private universities. In other parts of the worlds they may only have public universities… So why make public universities private… It seems counterintuitive. Regardless, I do like that it is a theatre and film university that the students of are the ones standing against what is going on politically. I also liked that this university is arts and humanities… a combination not often seen but one I believe to be beneficial. Humanities is very informing, and arts is directly related to humanity in ways that other industries do not even come close to. This is something that is really cool of what is happening in Hungary because it is students who are fighting for something worth keeping, education is important and public education is more accessible than private.
