6 Months Later: 7 Ways the Broadway Community Has Come Together During the Shutdown

This article highlights much more than the title implies to its readers. It is still hard to believe it has been six months since everything began to shut down, but looking through this article makes it easier to contextualize. Theatre as we knew it may be closed, but Playbill does an excellent job highlighting just how much the industry has been up to in the meantime. From relief and mask making to digital theatre to making strides with diversity, equity, and inclusion, theatre has been busy and has a long way to go yet. It is nice to see that Equity has been working to handle approving safe in person productions. While it is sad that the number of these productions is only a handful, it is nice to see that it is being taken seriously, especially as I doubt equity contracts previously had stipulations for times like these, but they probably are going to work in those types of clauses in all industries. The integration of plexiglass into live performances was a smart and innovative one. I would like to learn more about how to integrate this into different design concentrations. It would be interesting to see costume designers designing face masks that fit into period shows and the like, but that is the world we are living in and it is time to embrace it.
