I have only had less than a semesters experience with AutoCAD but I still enjoy learning about new skills in the program, especially what can come from new updates. This article talks about some new features in AutoCAD 202, and they are really focusing on one called Drawing History. To me, and what I understand about this new feature, you can now "compare a drawing with previous versions of that drawing". This seems very neat because if you have multiple drawings or different versions you can easily switch between the 2 or however many files there are to quickly locate the changes made. That is about all the new things that come to the update but they advertise this command so that it is "helpful if you have multiple people working on the same drawing". I am curious to see if this feature will become used at all at CMU when looking at draftings and if next year it will be implemented into my AutoCAD class.

Drawing history and version control is certainly something that could be better used in our workflow. Thankfully, we started putting files into folders within our construction drawing location on the server, since prior to that there were about 100+ files, including random backups, all jumbled together in the same folder. This obviously made it very difficult to track things down, but now it is at least easier to figure out. We talk a lot about keeping our drawings as different versions so we don't accidentally lose geometries we inadvertently delete in an older version. This is very similar to what is often done in a software engineering system, with repositories set up with version control (although that is done in a broader scale and using different methods). Having each dwg file store its own version history can greatly clean up our file organization and make it easier to manage drawings. This also ties into the concept of "multiple contributors", allowing versions to be branched off or restored for composite drawings. This, in combination with the google drive integration discussed in an earlier article, could really streamline our operation.

I'm a little embarrassed to say I was really excited when I saw this article and I immediately locked eyes with the title and opened it. I was hoping for a little bit more or at least some more interesting features although now that I think about it I'm not sure what kind of new AutoCAD features would have made me ooh and ahh like I expected to when I read the title of the article. Drawing history while interesting and I would assume, useful in the future reminds me of if AutoCAD became part of the GoogleDocs, Slides, etc. suite. It's something that as early drafters, having only taken less than a semester of AutoCAD we haven't had the need for yet. So far, we haven't had any collaborative drafts. Being part of Imaginarium online though that feature would probably come in handy right about now. Drafting responsibilities that are currently being split between the scenic designer and TD have not been begun but could be made easier with the addition of this feature.
