Movie Theaters in Georgia Likely Can’t Reopen By Next Week

Variety: Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp will allow movie theaters in his state to reopen starting April 27, but exhibition insiders stress that it would be nearly impossible for most major chains to start business back up by next week.

Movie theater circuits believe that it reopening won’t just be like flicking a switch. AMC Theaters, Regal Cinemas, Cinemark and other chains have furloughed or laid off almost all employees, and locations across the U.S. have been entirely shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Movie theaters are a place where people go to have fun and get together, which is possible because of the many employees that work in these theaters, who make sure that all the people who come to enjoy their movie experience can have the best one. They make sure to keep the theaters clean, maintain privacy and make tasty snacks for everyone.
That is why it makes sense that a few people are unsure about whether or not theaters in Georgia can open by next week, given the huge number of employees that have been laid off by all major theater companies, given the present circumstances.
It will take, I am guessing, at least some times notice to all such employees so that they cam make the necessary arrangements for the same, while also being careful about the present scenario outside, where it is paramount that they take care of themselves.

Watching this debate unfold right in front of me as I am sitting in Georgia has been very interesting, and what’s even more interesting is almost how outdated this article is even though it was published just four days ago. While I understand the point of getting people back to work and let a new sense of normalcy be established, but we are just not there yet in terms of where we are as a society dealing with this pandemic. Yet, last night it was released that movie theatres (and other entertainment venues) will be allowed to (and are encouraged to) open beginning on Monday, with precautions in place but still not enough. Overall, I am a point with what Georgia has been doing right now, where I am frustrated, and I will continue to be frustrated, because the amount of carelessness that has been instituted through the current laws and legislation is incredibly frustrating. My state is currently a test subject for what is going to happen across the country, and in two weeks we will see just how detrimental that is.

I feel like theatres should not open as of now but I am not an expert on the situation in general or in Georgia. When it is suggested we social distance and stay six feet apart, I am not sure movie theatre gathering fit that criteria ? I understand movie theatres not only provide work for a lot of people, but also a source of entertainment and sense of normalcy during these uncertain and rather depressing times, but shouldn't safety be put first? Again, I am not an expert but we know social distancing and taking precautions is the only way this thing is going to end in the near future. The sooner this ends, the sooner everything can open back up. I have heard some southern states are thinking about pretty much opening back up and ending social distancing very soon, and I am afraid they will jump the gun and make matters worse. But that isn't for me to decide, and we will just have to see.
