I was well aware of the fact that the arts would be taking a massive blow, but this number is astounding. This statistic actually makes me curious to look more into statistics about the profit and revenue of the arts. I know that there are obviously hundreds of thousands of museums in the United States, as well as countless theatres and other artforms, but I never would have guessed that a couple weeks can mean multi-billion-dollar revenues. The article makes a good point, however; when the quarantine is over, the arts will play a large roll in jumpstarting the economy. A rush of people spending money on the arts will get the economy flowing again. That being said, it will be very interesting to see how things will be when quarantine lifts, because people will certainly be rushing to see friends again, but will we still shy away from public gatherings and movie theatres and such? I wonder if people will be tentative in returning to all of these typically crowded places.
