It is nice to see that the British Film Institute is providing financial relief to independent and smaller productions. These independent projects often function on tight and limited budgets as is, so for these productions to be interrupted for such a long period of time is understandably devastating. One of my in-laws is a freelance cinematographer who has had to file for unemployment, because realistically, work simply will not be available for him for the foreseeable future. However, the cinematographer is just one role in a film production. A film often has tens, hundreds, sometimes thousands of people working on it, and suddenly, these hordes of people are going to be left in a bit of a ditch, as movies and other film productions cannot exactly be worked on from home. The article mentions that the fund for freelancers was also supported by such companies as Netflix and the BBC. It is refreshing to see that these major companies are supporting the creators who provide them with content. A lot of people will still be left in financial ruts from the current ongoing crisis, but these funds set up by the British Film Institute will still be helpful in any case.
