The New York Times: The Kennedy Center’s first expansion in its nearly half-century history had just opened, and its new spaces were being put through their paces for the first time.
A mid-September breeze swept over the lawn, where a free outdoor screening of “The Black Panther” on a giant new video wall had drawn an audience of hundreds the previous night. In the nearby Moonshot Studio, middle schoolers were making zoetropes inspired by the children’s book author and pigeon portraitist Mo Willems.

I love the Kennedy Center! It is such a beautiful performing arts center. I lived in Northern Virginia so I’ve been able to visit a few times over the past few years. As a native to the area, it is surprising to hear about the first expansion. I like the idea of new studio spaces and smaller performance venues (other than their main performance spaces). I like that they are trying to make the Kennedy Center ore accessible. Thought its history it was first seen as a very privileged place to go and only big events were held there, but over the past few decades, it has really turned into a performance space for many disciplines and groups. The buildings are not connected (also the Kennedy center is amazing, it sits on the edge of the Potomac River and it is an amazing building to see as you go over the main bridge into DC from the north) I really like Ms. Rutter's vision for the Kennedy Center and I can’t wait to go back and visit the new building at some point!
