Cirque’s would-be blockbuster ‘R.U.N’ needs to expand its appeal

Las Vegas Review-Journal: Cirque du Soleil has gone off the rails, on purpose.

“R.U.N” has opened at Luxor. The show opened Thursday night at a breakneck pace, all up in your face, all over the place. If these performers were not onstage, you’d call the cops. All of this is by design.

If I was only looking at the pictures published in this article, I would not have guessed that this was a Cirque show. They are very right about this being intended for a different audience then Cirque would normally design for. It is really interesting to see the differences in the design of this show. The cast, from the photos, seems to be very small in comparison to some of the Cirques other shows. And holy cow, the price tag for this show is insane! I would love to see a ranking of the different price tags of Cirque shows, I think that would be insanely interesting. I don’t know if this is the Cirque show I would go see, I personally like other designs a little better than what I have seen of “R.U.N.” but I do like to see the different approach. I bet that this show is absolutely amazing and jaw-dropping and if I had the opportunity to see this show I defiantly would.

It is very interesting reading all the reviews and comments about ‘R.U.N’ as the reviews usually say that it is not a good show but the other article just posted on the Newspage was about how cool and well written as well as a well structured the show is. I’m a little confused by the spin that this author has on the show but it seems somewhat of a positive review. It is really interesting how the show is the first new show in thirty years and it is so extremely different. I love how the company saw a need to expand and is trying to expand its appeal. I am also interested in how the show markets itself like a movie. As someone who wouldn’t want to see a movie instead of a show, this isn’t a kind of show that appeals to me. Also, all the violence seems very very very off-putting for me. The whole thing about a person “breaking” a limb off seems very off-putting.
