Stage review: Quantum's 'Inside Passage' presents one woman's powerful search for family and self

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Old family snapshots, personal memories and a search for the differing truths behind them might seem common fodder for a poem, but for a play? Sounds more like therapy than theater — but not in the thoughtful, comic heart and hands of playwright Gab Cody.

What a great review on Quantum Theatre's new production! "Inside Passage" seems like the heartwarming, teachable piece of theatre that so many of us need and want to see right now. The idea of using family and a look back at the past as a means of teaching an audience about the human connection that is really important in the world seems like a great story for theatre to tell. Often today, theatre companies, along with film and television feel like the stories that they tell need to be ones of activism and big actions that work toward a better future. I think, though, that stories about family and identity can be just as powerful, if not more so that stories about "active" versus "passive" action. As Christopher Rawson writes, "At a time when we so need to reconnect to our roots and respect the roots of others, such a journey must reverberate for all". This ideal and value is an important one to keep close to our hearts as we decide which stories to tell and how to artistically tell them to our audiences.
