AutoCAD Celebrates International Women’s Day

AutoCAD Blog | Autodesk: Today is International Women’s Day so it’s only fitting that we celebrate some of the incredible women using AutoCAD. Here are just a few we’ve met over the past year. We hope you’ll be as inspired as we have been by their stories.

I really liked this article! I think International Women’s Day is a great day to honor women that use AutoCAD in their fields, because they always deserve recognition! I had no idea that people used AutoCAD for handbags, of all things, and for items like sunglasses. Accessories, I suppose, need draftings too. It’s really not what I would have expected, however, because the way that I use CAD programs is for theater, and drafting, but people draft things everywhere! I think it would be really cool if companies like Vectorworks, AutoCAD, and Cinema 4D, had a page that was dedicated to promoting female designers, and gives women a platform to unite and talk about how they use the program, and how their fields treat women. This kind of discussion could be really important for men to read, and see, but not contribute. Often, they don’t think they’re doing anything wrong, but hearing about these experiences could help them realize that they need to be more aware, especially in the workplace. Let’s use this International Women’s Day to create change, especially in the CAD world.

Way to go autoCAD! This is a simple and easy way to represent women in the diverse fields of different types using one program. Sure, it’s definitely a plug for how variable and adaptable the program is, but they also bother to include further articles for each woman in question so the reader can actually explore each individual and see likenesses and be inspired. I wish more companies would stick to a simple form of marketing like this one, just acknowledgement of the real people who use their software and why it’s important to let these women be recognized. One plug I have for this is that they could have chosen more women of color or a non-binary female figure just to really hit the intersectionality of feminism right on the head, but for the time being, I’m pretty happy that autoCAD made this cute little article and that little girls around the world will have role models in the STEM fields.

This was such a great way to learn about some amazing womxn in STEAM who are using Autocad in new and innovative ways. I would have never thought to use Autocad to design sunglasses or hand bags. These womxn are extremely resourceful.
I do however agree with Kim that there should have been more non binary femmes and femmes of color on this list. As a non binary person of color, I think that we so often forget that diversity is not just a white woman. Diversity is Asian, black, Latinx, tribal, gender non conforming, and so so much more.
The STEM field needs so much more diversity. It needs men of color as well. I hope that programs like AutoCad can help all people of diverse backgrounds.
This is, however, a great way to celebrate international womxn's day and I'm glad they did this. Small diverse children who want to be in STEM deserve to be able to see themselves represented.
