A Brief History of Hollywood Sexualizing Guns
BlackBook: Although the argument that guns in movies and television leads to actual gun violence is a bit ’90s, it’s clear that Hollywood has a major boner for firearms. A “hot chick” with a gun is more or less gold in the blockbuster action genre. As long as straight white men run Hollywood, it’s doubtful this fetish will go away any time soon.

This article brings up two major points that are not only damaging Hollywood's film industry, but also damaging the entirety of society in which we live today. Sexism can be found almost everywhere around the world today, and unfortunately is one of the most age-old issues there is. Really? Are we still sexualizing women for profit? And are we still expecting that oppressing them, their education, their voices, etc. at the same time is totally fine? The answer, unfortunately is a very simple yes. Yes, sex sells. And if you mix sex and violence? Even more profit. This brings us to the second major point that is absolutely corrupted throughout our nation-- and really across so many of the world's countries and cultures: gun violence. The gun laws in the United States are an absolute illogical abomination. The fact that people on the no-fly list can buy guns without question just because a couple of guys in Louisiana want to shoot some deer makes no sense. Hollywood needs to at least begin to desexualize and de-glorify the use of unnecessary, extremely dangerous weapons that we see in every single action movie that comes out every other month so as to at least see some change against sexism and the small amount of gun control that we have in our society.
