Axanar: The $1 Million Star Trek Fan Film CBS Wants to Stop

The use of worlds that fans love to create art featuring characters and plot elements has become a source of much controversy with the growth of fan made films and other media using copyrighted source material, and I am interested to see how the fight the corporations have been bringing to fan made films will affect the fans. Although a legitimate case is easy to put together against such a high budget, planned feature length fan film such as Axanar that could be and is most likely looked at as competition, fan support goes a long way in franchises that can sell based on name and source material alone, and this kind of action against fans will definitely be turning off many Trekkies. I hope this issue can be resolved in a way that gives Axanar the green light, but it’s not a perfect world and I think many fans, including myself, will take offense to the franchise infringing on their ability to express their passion for the material.
