Where Do Giant Robots, Modified Lawnmowers, Adaptive Art Tools, and Thereminists Go?
makezine.com: Maker Faire Detroit, of course. One of the longest-running Maker Faires in the world, Maker Faire Detroit takes place for the seventh year in a row this weekend, July 30 and 31, at The Henry Ford. With nearly 25,000 folks coming out last year to learn, share, and celebrate all forms of making, community support is clearly strong in the area. And what better host than The Henry Ford, which has been recognizing, preserving, and promoting American ingenuity and innovation for decades.

The thing I have always loved most about any Maker Faire is the incredible variety of inventors and innovators, and it seems like this is continuing on this year.I cannot think of another place where such a wide range of makers can showcase what they are doing, From the technical precision of Dorit Chryslers' theremins to the inclusive community involvement of Detroit Mower Gang, and a meeting in the middle with something like Zot Artz, the confluence of innovation and ideas is so incredibly strong at Maker Faire. I also am drawn to the idea that making is something that society accepts as cool and interesting, something that I feel until very recently was not the case. I think that kids in particular becoming interested in making has a lot to do with Maker Faire and other similar events, because of the way that the makers can exhibit their creations in a light that makes them look unique and inspiring to young eyes.
