Would The 18 Year Old You Listen To Career Advice From 40 Year Old You?

Butts In the Seats: Yesterday Thomas Cott tweeted two articles taking a Pro and Con view of the value of arts degrees. The first talked about how you don’t have to appear on Broadway to have derived value from your theater degree. The second wondered if BFA and MFA programs in dance aren’t part of a pyramid scheme.

Reading this article just brought to light a constant worry that I believe a lot of people in SOD have: Is it actually worth the cost? While I love my time here and wouldn't change it for the world, will I still feel that way after I graduate and am bogged down in debt? Right now, I say yes. Twenty years from now, who knows?

One thing that really struck me about this article was the authors comment on how programmes such as our own are basically places to motivate us to do the work. I really hope that is not true. I like to think that the SOD is so much more than a place that forces me to have self will.
