What Do You Think About Craftsman and Sears? Your Voice WILL Be Heard!

ToolGuyd: I just got off the phone with someone who recently stepped into a leadership position at Sears. It sounds like he wants to bring about changes, as he asked for my take on Sears and Craftsman’s tools. I gave him an earful – politely of course – and frankly aired out several years’ worth of frustrations I have with both Craftsman and Sears.

Its funny that I should see this article right now since no more than 30 minutes ago I was talking to Scott the over hire about craftsman tools. We were discussing how black and Decker was pretty much the first (hand held) power tool company and has since gone down the slippery slope of moving away from professional products and more towards home owner tools. Home owner tools are by nature not as good as professional tools. They are built to be cheaper and that also means they have a lighter work load, which is OK for a homeowner that wants to hang a few pictures a month and maybe tighten some loose hinges. Craftsman is going down that path as well (so is porter cable and sadly a bunch of other companies). Craftsman, in the past few years has been struggling to find a place for itself. Their ads show professionals using the tools but they are marketed towards homeowners. Craftsman tools have gone down in quality but some lines of their tools are better. For example, their stationary tools (table saw and such) are not bad. I am glad to see there are still trying to find themselves and are listening to the consumers…whoever that may be.
