WorldStage Helps New York In “Talking Transition” For New Mayor
Live Design Magazine [primary-term] press release archives: As the New York mayoralty transitions from the Bloomberg era to the de Blasio era, New Yorkers were asked to share their views about the city's future in an innovative citywide effort, "Talking Transition." WorldStage provided extensive lighting support for the tent-like complex at Hudson Square at Canal and Varick Streets in Manhattan, which served as the initiative's home base.

On site rigs are interesting, but also totally suck in their own way. As someone who was in New York for part of this winter I can really say it was terrible. I would like to read more about how the more extreme weather conditions would effect architectural and theatrical lighting instruments.
So about the design decision to only illuminate the tent at night is interesting because I honestly do not know of many people who would go out to an outdoor event in the middle of the winter at night. SO the optimal time to attract people would be during the day even thought the point of the event is to have a discussion and not theatricality. There is not a loyal De Blasio following so I would think he needs the coolest tent to cater to jaded New Yorkers.
