Musical 'Wicked' keeps racking up the big numbers

TribLIVE: Since its debut in 2003, “Wicked” has racked up some impressive numbers.
Even after celebrating its 10th anniversary Oct. 30, the musical's popularity shows no signs of waning anytime soon.
On Dec. 30, the blockbuster, a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” posted its latest spectacular stat when it became the first Broadway musical to gross more than $3 million in one week.

Uh, duh! Because 'Wicked' is an amazing musical! (I didn't think the book was that good. Gregory Maguire is a much better author than that book ("Confessions of an ugly stepsister" is AMAZING!). Anyway, finding out the fun facts about the show was fun! The reason that 'Wicked' has been able to last for so long is that there will always be someone else who wants to go see it. It was fun to read this article. I actually interned for the costume coordinator of 'Wicked' over the summer and I didn't even know all these facts! (except for the translations, I knew those!)

I'm only too eager to agree with Becki on this one. It is one of my absolute favorite shows and not a surprise at all that is has easily survived 10 years, and probably many more to come. I was fortunate enough to spend a couple runs of the show with the crew at the Pantages theatre in Hollywood. I learned so much from them and was luckily able shadow the head Carp for the show. I can only hope that I'll be able to see the show again, many times, before it closes.

To be honest, did we expect anything else? The book itself is a marvelous piece of literature (and yes, I say literature) which is filled with politics and scheming. The musical skates over most of that, and for some odd reason, I'm not even mad. The way that Wicked the Musical continues to captivate audiences proves that is deserves to run for ten more years. And only because my classmates are lovingly name dropping, Gregory Maguire sends his daughter to my camp and she's an angel. They're a wonderful family. I wish I could see Wicked again while it's in Pittsburgh.. if only tickets weren't so damn expensive.

Wicked is such an amazing piece of musical theatre and live entertainment. Makes me wonder if Wicked will outlive Phantom?( I hope it does...) As Nick said the reason Wicked does so well is there will always be someone who wants to see it. The reason for that is everyone involved with the show created a piece of theatre that was so touching and entertaining. Wicked is also one of those shows that you could see over and over again. I have only have the chance to see it once, but I'm sure if I could see it over and over again I would find something new to like about it each and every time.

I love wicked and I'm so glad its doing so well. Its one of my favorite show and what i think is a perfect example of modern theatre. It combines wonderful design, effects, and catchy music with a really compelling story, which is why i think people keep going back to see it over and over. I was fortunate enough to get one of the last few tickets to the tour thats in pittsburgh now and i was amazed to say the least- just by how many tickets were left. For a show to be on its 4th tour through a specific city and still be selling out every night is amazing and i congratulate the entire wicked team on creating such a great show.
