New Details On The Marvel Experience and First Look at Dome

InPark Magazine: Canvassing a 2-acre footprint of more than 80,000 square feet, this state-of-the-art, custom built multi-Dome complex will represent the first time a venue of this type, size and scope will be utilized for a mobile tour. From the outside, The MarvelExperience resembles a temporary S.H.I.E.L.D. installation or “Mobile Command Center,” with the facility’s apex towering more than six stories high. Inside, a maze of connected Domes will lead guests through an array of interactive games and original animated short films including the first- ever traveling motion-based ride, where guests become immersed in this original adventure only found in The Marvel Experience. This unique, themed entertainment experience is scheduled to visit select US and Canadian markets for weeks at a time in each city and is designed to engage audiences through compelling family entertainment with a production value consistent with the iconic nature of the Marvel Super Heroes.

There Marvel Experience is going to be one of those things that is either going to be a huge hit or a completely failure. The idea of a touring entertainment interactive exhibit is nothing but a new concept in the entertainment industry. The plan for the six story tall, 2-acre, 80,000 square foot state of the art entertainment complex is intriguing, but have a ton of potential for failure in my opinion. Transporting this structure around the country and parts of Canada concern me and must reflect on the quality of the exhibit. This is not a show, its an interactive museum basically with exhibits and a motion based ride. Sounds interesting, but how good can the quality be on a traveling entertainment company. I do enjoy the concept, but this is all temporary and if its a hit people are only going to be able to enjoy its stay for a short period of a few weeks per location. When this project gets completed I'm interested in seeing the users response to the quality and enjoyment of this idea.

I have to disagree with Keith on this one. I think this is going to be a complete success, and this new entertainment concept that they are proposing sounds like just the thing that the average american would enjoy. A totally immersive world into something that people only see in TV or movies, I personally think this is exactly what people will want to go to.

As much as I would tend to agree with Keith that this has huge potential to be a great failure, I am going to have to go with Nick. The Marvel reboot has been an absolute success so far, and I see no reason this won't be continued into their theme park like tour. The concept lends itself to success, it is designed in a way that looks temporary: A quickly set up paramilitary installation. The Marvel Experience is a modern nod to the traditional circus format. The show rolls into town, pitches a tent (or dome), and proceeds to entertain the public for a few weeks before packing up and moving on. And what better way to drum up support for this kind of show, than basing it on one of the most important on-going movie franchises.

I'm conflicted in how I feel about this endeavor. On the one hand, I think it might be cool to experience like once, but on the other hand I think disney is short selling the marvel themed experience idea. I would MUCH rather see WDI creating a new marvel based land at one of their own theme parks than passing it off to a 3rd party company. I think people will want to experience a immersive marvel attraction, but I think the limitations on that of a touring show are too great for them to really achieve the full potential. I also majorly disagree with their comment about this being the future of themed entertainment. This may be a small component of the future but this type of thing will never have the ability to compete with resident theme parks.
