Labelmaking Enthusiasts, This Is Your Apollo 11

gizmodo.com: Unless you're obsessively organized, or love the iconic aesthetics of the old-school manual models, it's really hard to muster much excitement for a labelmaker. But somehow Epson has managed to create the perfect tiny printer for the smartphone age. For the casual user it's finally an easy way to bring a little bit of order into their lives, and for the obsessive labeller it's pretty much the equivalent of landing on the moon.

A tiny printer that can make labels right from a smart phone? Sounds awesome! I find that label making is the sort of thing that needs to happen on the go, so being able to do it with a phone and a small device with out any cables would be very helpful. It is even speedy so that you don't have to wait around for the printer to finish. I can see this being a helpful tool in a shop of any kind because of these features as well as it's ability to print labels with things other than text. For example images. In theatre I think that often the best way to label something is not with a word, but a graphic that tells you more about what the thing is then a name could. On top of all the practical reasons I can think of to get this tiny printer I also think it looks very nice for a gadget. All that being said, I'm not sure that this printer is for me as much as I might want it. I know that I am in the minority, but I don't have a smart phone and so I wouldn't be able to take advantage of one of the key features of this printer. But the main reason that the LW-600P isn't going to be something that I get is that it's very expensive. I know that the article says that it's just "the cost of staying organized", but $100 for a label printer is just to expensive for me. The way I see it, it is as important how you use your tools as it is what tools you have. So for now I think I'll just have to use more basic label makers and try to use them effectively to organize my life.

This tool looks very promising. I am not sure someone would want to carry this around with them everywhere they went. It seems that this would be a good tool to keep in an office space, where people could use it communally. It also seems like it may be easier to operate than normal label makers out there. I really like this product, because it would be very functional in an office space, but it is also small enough to travel with. For someone who is only somewhat organized, this product would probably be most useful in an office. For someone who is compulsively organized, this product would probably travel with them in their backpacks. The mini-printer also sounds like it works much faster than standard label makers, which is a big plus for someone that wants to label things on a time crunch.
