Preview: City Theatre opens season with Tony-winning Chekhov-inspired comedy
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" was on Tracy Brigden's must-do list long before its Tony Award victory for best play. She read the script, envisioned the roles of Sonia and Masha for Pittsburgh actresses Sheila McKenna and Helena Ruoti and pursued the rights while it was on the verge of becoming a Broadway sensation.

Here is something I would definitely like to see. Gathering from the Christopher Durang plays I have read, he likes to borrow from other stories and references and in my opinion he does it quite craftily. I am interested to see any stirrings of Chekhovian themes, farcical or otherwise. I also appreciate that there are plenty of theaters in Pittsburgh who are excited to try new and adventurous texts. That task alone is hard but now City theatre must do that as well as do justice to the play's "Tony Award Winning" name. I'd also be excited to see how the actors will handle such comedy, which usually requires so much work on inflection and timing.
