PITTSBURGH: Our Time is Now
TECHBurgher: Pittsburgh is back and back with a vengeance. Why? We are a region filled with smart people who spend their days inventing, developing, designing, making, growing and solving the world’s toughest problems.
From an economic standpoint, these “innovators and entrepreneurs” are no longer just a sidecar to our economy; they have become the drivers of the economy, who exist and thrive inside our multinational companies, as well as start-ups. It is our legacy and it is our momentum.

Pittsburgh is full of start ups. They're everywhere. Students with integral banks of knowledge have their eye on these jobs, and there are so many opportunities if you know where to look. Take a walk downtown; it's full of venture-capital funded businesses and huge financial names. And many of them are knocking at CMU's door, recognizing our students' achievements. It says good things about the city, and about the future of Pittsburgh.
For example, I was surprised the first time I got on a plane to here from NYC and saw dozens of business suits, clearly making a daily commute from PIT to JFK/PHL. Flying is something I enjoy and take every opportunity to do, particularly for the unique individuals who pass through the airports. So I try to notice everything from who the gate agents are to who the average passenger on certain flights are. And PIT is a business destination. I was surprised because Pittsburgh isn't a huge city and I didn't think of it as a technological powerhouse. But since coming to school here, I've learned that we're certainly growing and expanding, and that's something I'm excited for. (And Pittsburgh, please expand your International Airport again, you were doing so well fifteen years ago and was full of potential... what happened to you?)
I love reading articles about how Pittsburgh is booming and becoming a new center of art, culture, and business. I think now is the best time to be in Pittsburgh as a creator and a college student. There are so many new opportunities here for young artists and creators. I know that when I graduate I don't plan on staying in Pittsburgh, but this place has been and will continue to be an amazing place to be a student. CMU, Pitt, and all the other colleges in Pittsburgh harbor an amazing environment of smart people and talented artists. I am proud to be a citizen of Pittsburgh.
