Mellon funds playwright residencies
Theater & art - The Boston Globe: Financial security is elusive for playwrights. Equally rare is the opportunity for a sustained immersion within the theater companies they rely on to present their work to the world.
For 14 playwrights, including Boston playwright Melinda Lopez, that is about to change, at least for a while.

I am excited to see playwrights getting the opportunity to more into a theatre and not have to worry about their finance situation because it will get them a chance to work on pieces that could push the boundaries of theatre instead of pieces for money. Now as playwrights they have to be able to see their piece to an audience so I don't mean they forget that. I think it is more of a chance for them to find the art in their writing. To question why and what they write and if or if not it is beautiful. It is a chance to expand on their write so maybe a story is not just a story anymore.
