'Les Miserables' pivotal since early days for actor

TribLIVE: For actor Devin Ilaw, “Les Miserables” has had a major role in at least two pivotal moments of his life. Ilaw, a 2007 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University‘s School of Drama, plays Marius, the revolution-minded student who‘s in love with Cosette in the 25th anniversary production of “Les Miserables.”

Wow. I saw les mis (the movie version) and had two epiphanies. One: live theatre has something that movies do not. My opinions of the movie came down to one thing: the story is as good as it always is, but the production was lackluster. I thought, to be quite frank, the production was bland. It lacked the pizzaz that, on stage, brings the production to life. The second epiphany was that les mis has a relation to real life that no one can quite explain. It's a little different for everyone, including the people in it.

As a person who watched Les Miserable impressively, I thought this article was very exciting and intriguing to read. Especially, reading the story of our school's alumni who admired and finally became a cast of Les Miserable, I was really exciting to see how one's dream that was once inspired by someone else came into a real life. I wish I can also be inspired by a work of some other designers that will help me to set my goals that I can look up to. Also, I truly agree with what Ilaw was saying about his favorite song being "One day more." It was definitely one of the most impressive songs that I saw in the movie because combined with every cast, I could feel the true enthusiasm from everyone's part. I really hope that I can one day encounter the live version of Les Miserable in Broadway.
