Kennedy Center set to expand
Variety: The Kennedy Center will build a major addition, expected to cost $100 million, to its iconic building along the Potomac River in order to accommodate needed rehearsal and education spaces as well as an outdoor performance area. The institution's chairman, billionaire David M. Rubenstein, has pledged half the funding.

While living in DC for a year before coming to CMU I never had the pleasure of seeing a performance at the Kennedy Center unfortunately, but I did have a few friends that worked with their costume and management departments that always had great things to say about the company and it's work so it's nice to see that they are continuing to grow. This is especially good for their educational program. It became apparent to me while in DC, working as an intern for the Shakespeare Theatre Company, that education is a huge part of daily operation for some of the larger companies in the city. Arena, Shakespeare, the Kennedy Center and others all had incredibly strong programs that covered a wide range of disciplines, and hopefully this addition will continue to expand the Kennedy Center's program.
