Stage Directions: The New York Innovative Theatre Awards (NYIT) celebrate Off-Off-Broadway theatre. Their annual awards ceremony will be held on Monday, Sept. 24 this year, where, in addition to a slate of awards to various productions they will hand out several Honorary Awards. The 2012 Artistic Achievement Award, which honors an individual who has made a significant artistic contribution to the Off-Off-Broadway community, will go to the 5 Lesbian Brothers troupe. The Theatre Development Fund will be awarded the 2012 Ellen Stewart Award, honoring an individual or organization demonstrating a significant contribution to the Off-Off-Broadway community through service, support and leadership. The last honorary award is the the Caffé Cino Fellowship Award, which goes to an Off-Off-Broadway theatre company that consistently produces outstanding work and includes a grant to be used toward an Off-Off-Broadway production. The 2012 winner of that is the Astoria Performing Arts Center.
