IATSE, L.A. Controller Wendy Greuel Urge Governor to Sign Tax-Credit Extension

The Wrap Movies: IATSE Local 80 President Thom Davis and L.A. City Controller Wendy Greuel have sent a letter to Gov. Jerry Brown urging him to sign an extension of California's film and tax credit laws. Two nearly identical measures, AB 2026 from Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes and SB 1197 from state Sen. Ron Calderon, were sent to the governor's desk on Aug. 31, the final day of the legislative session. They would extend the California Film Commission’s requirement to allocate tax credits through and including the 2016-17 fiscal year.

If you can prove through the study that the tax credits will generate enough buisness to make the State of California more tax revenue elsewhere why not try to make more productions shoot in California. If it is only expanding the private sectors profit and hurting the already dysfunctional and insolvent government of the great state of California do not do it. California already can not raise income taxes without a referendum do not hamstring your state government because you feel that the movie industry is the only way to keep people employed. Also the city of LA can add to the tax credits that are offered to shoot in LA if it feels that the state is not doing enough for LA to stay competitive.

I did not know that there where tax credits for films in LA. I thought that all the films that are produced there are just because everything is there and it would be easier. But I guess since everyone is giving out tax credits for films, LA would have to follow to also be competitive to make sure that the big studios don’t move to some other location because it would save them a ton of money. I hope for the sake of everyone in LA that in the film industry that this gets signed. It would be very interesting if the film industry was to pick up shop and move to somewhere like Vegas or even somewhere on the East coast. I hope the best for everyone that lives in LA.
