EW.com: Broadway newcomer Corey Cott, a recent graduate of the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, has taken over the role of Jack Kelly in Newsies, after leading man Jeremy Jordan’s final performance on Sept. 4. (Jordan is headed to Smash.) Although Cott has already stood in for Jordan 12 times, today marks his first official day as the new lead of Disney’s smash musical.

I think that it is amazing that Corey Cott is now replacing the Tony nominated lead actor of Newsies...talk about an honor. Not having known him besides speaking to him on several occasions, reading this interview was very interesting and intriguing. To read that Corey was not cast as a lead here at CMU, but then was cast as Jack Kelley, just goes to show you how amazingly talented the students of CMU are. Reading this left me very inspired and driven.
I am so incredibly happy for Corey to have gotten an amazing opportunity like this. Working with him on Sweeney last semester allowed me to get to know him a little, and I'm really proud to be able to say that I've worked with him, an actor of amazing talent. There are some great people coming out of CMU, and I'm excited to be able to be a part of it.
Working with Corey on Sweeney, it doesn't surprise me at all that this success has occurred so quickly. We hear all about our alumni that have gone on to crazy success, and it is clear that Corey's name will soon be among the best of them. It truly is amazing that we get to go to school every day with some of the most talented and genuine people in the country. Huzzah CMU!
I have to say that again, the sheer talent and passion of the people that come out of CMU is utterly astounding. Like Jess said, it is amazing to be a part of the experience of people who do such amazing work. I hope that in the future years I will have the opporunity to see Cory in Newsies and many other CMU alums doing what they do best.
I was lucky enough to see "Newsies" a few months ago while visiting New York. It was an incredible show with amazing energy. To see a CMU alum get the lead is very exciting! It makes me proud to be part of this school and to know that the opportunities are limitless for us all. I loved the interview that Corey did, and thought his humbleness was very honest.
Once again this is a great success story of one of the alumni of the school of Drama. It is even more interesting because he is so freshly out of school and many of us remember him and his performances. I find it sort of funny how many stories I have read about people meeting their friends on Broadway after a long time. Once again it is always nice seeing our alumni doing well.
I saw the movie once a couple years ago and loved it, and I remember thinking that it would be amazing to see onstage. Well, here we are, and with the lead being someone I went to school with! Because I didn't get the chance to know him too personally, getting an insight on the way he thinks and sees the world and this life he's living now is really interesting and really inspiring. It's amazing to know that even straight out of school, we'll be ready for the entertainment community to take us as one of their own.
I never got to meet him but I think this speaks volumes for the school and the talent that comes out of here.
