TribLIVE: Happy families do not make good drama. “Medea” would be far less interesting if she and Jason had worked out their marital problems through counseling. Who would watch “King Lear” if the retired monarch had happily settled in with one of his three daughters?

I absolutely love this show! Perhaps I love it for the same reasons the article suggests, that I find comfort in the knowledge that other families are more dysfunctional than mine. Of course, the complexity of these characters make the show that much more interesting and entertaining to watch. Having all of these characters interact for three hours and having the privilege to watch the plot unfold is one of the best theatrical experiences I have experienced. I would strongly suggest this drama to anyone.
I saw this show last year and it had a very similar effect to Oedipus. Why I was watching the play the serious misfortune seem as if it could never happen to me, but as it continued many of these characters had little traits that humanized them. By the end of the play the moment of acceptance of (The fate of the family and Oedipus) leaves you with a comforting felling, almost as if you washed away any bad conflict with your family in the past. This play follows rather well with Aristotle Poetics, so there is no wonder to me why I enjoyed it and that is consider a successful play.
