Candidates should be proficient in modern scenic and prop construction including, but not limited to: accurate development and interpretation of working drawings, carpentry, welding (MIG and TIG), machining and metalworking, rigging, plastics, hydraulics and pneumatics, automation, and tool maintenance. In addition, the applicant should have excellent time management skills, be familiar with commonly used software packages (MS Office, AutoCAD), and have experience working with and leading student crews. Assistant Technical Direction responsibilities for the Department of Theatre's production season. Technical Direction and construction for two opera productions for the College of Music. Teaching responsibilities available based on experience and area of specialization. Additional paid opportunities in scene design with the College of Music Opera Theatre based on interest/experience.

Candidate will also be responsible for enforcing MSU shop safety policies and procedures, maintaining accurate shop inventory records, assigning tasks to student employees and volunteers, and maintaining a safe and productive working environment. Responsible for coordinating with the I.A.T.S.E. production management staff to ensure the safe and efficient load-in, run, and strike of two College of Music Operas.

A Bachelor in Technical Theatre (or the equivalent professional experience), working knowledge of the field of technical direction, technology and affiliated areas of expertise, and a commitment to the collaborative process and to excellence in theatre education within a Liberal Arts setting are essential.

An MFA in Technical Theatre (or equivalent professional experience), professional affiliations and teaching experience is preferred.

The College of Music Opera Theatre presents two fully staged and costumed productions accompanied by a College of Music orchestral ensemble, chamber operas, and special events featuring faculty and students from the vocal arts area.
