Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: It's a little tawdry and also kind of grand, this "La Cage aux Folles" that's playing at the Benedum through Sunday. Departing from the giddy, glittery froth of the 1983 Broadway original, the national touring production of the 2010 Broadway revival looks beyond the world of sequins, eyelashes and marabou to acknowledge that men in drag are creating this world of illusion. They might shave their shapely legs and rouge their lips, but they also display manly biceps and abs.
Director Terry Johnson projects a hard-edge darkness onto some of the storylines and dance numbers.
