Passion distilled perfectly in immortal 'Tosca'

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: A powerful story is no guarantee of success in opera. Neither is musical genius. But, when the two come together, the results can be immortal. Giacomo Puccini knew the kind of plots that really fired his genius; an awareness that enabled him to create many of the most popular operas in the repertoire. Puccini's specialty was pathos of his heroines. "Tosca" is the story of a passionate affair between two artists who are destroyed by external forces in a time of political upheaval.
