Businessweek: Fired “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” director Julie Taymor took aim today at the musical’s producers and her former creative partners on the show, accusing them in a lawsuit of making her a scapegoat to appease investors anxious about cost-overruns and poor critical response.

I still maintain that this entire lawsuit is silly. It's unecessary and frankly a waste of time. Julie Taymor doesn't need this money, Bono doesn't need this money, nobody involved in this lawsuit needs this money. As for it being "the principle of the thing," the principle has been taken way out of context. Yes, Spiderman failed as a musical and was delayed in opening for multiple reasons. However, these legal charges aren't rectifying the situation. They are just making everybody look worse, and are ultimately becoming what Julie Taymor is known for instead of her better work - which is pretty amazing.
There's always two sides to every story. Makes sense that Taymor has a different recollection of how things went. Although the number of lawsuits that are being filed in this case are starting to get a little ridiculous. As Kassondra noted, it's not like any of the folks involved really need the money, and it's just dragging this thing out. In reality, this Spider-Man musical has been more of a drama and a theatrical production in what has gone on off the stage instead of on it, and... that's never a good thing in this business.
