4-star film studio coming to Strip District

Post Gazette: Four movie-making institutions have banded together in Pittsburgh to create what they believe is the best production site outside of Hollywood. If a producer wants to find comparable capabilities, "it would have to be in LA. Not even New York has what we're talking about today," said Chris Breakwell, chief executive officer of The 31st Street Studios in the Strip District.

I am extremely excited to hear about this production studio coming to town. As someone who is interested in working in the film and movie industry one day, I am thrilled that Pittsburgh may become the "Hollywood of the East". I'm sure we as a school are going to get so many more opportunities to work on productions that come through town once 31st Street Studios gets going big. Paramount On Location will also be a big draw to interest in the Pittsburgh area since it will be supplying the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic states. I hope that I'll get a chance in film even more once things get started with the partnership.

This is awesome. It is interesting to see that Pittsburgh is becoming a film city. If they are actually accurate and are becoming the next biggest thing out side of Hollywood then that will mean a lot for the city. It actually could give Pittsburgh a little bit more of an identity. Obviously it is great that they are partnering with CMU in any way, ETC seems to be a very mysterious place where great things happen and even after attending "Building Virtual Worlds" I wish I knew more about it. But maybe this merger will give it more exposure and we can see what can come out of it.

This is really great to see the major studios becoming more interested in working in Pittsburgh. It's interesting to see how the film industry has really begun to pick up in the last few years in Pittsburgh, especially with The Dark Knight Rises filming this past summer here in Pittsburgh. To see these studios starting to invest money in offices, and digital studios here in Pittsburgh is great, and the fact that they are collaborating with the ETC is even better because it will give us here at CMU in opportunity to become involved. It'll be great to see this continue to grow
