The real way to build a social network
Fortune Tech: Many people are turned off by the topic of networking. They think it's slimy, inauthentic. Picture the consummate networker: a high-energy fast talker who collects as many business cards as he can and attends mixers sporting slicked-back hair. Or the overambitious college kid who frantically e-mails alumni, schmoozes with the board of trustees, and adds anyone he's ever met as an online friend. Such people are drunk on networking Kool-Aid -- and are looking at a potentially nasty hangover.

So apparently, broadway shows flop when the production team is really close, and also when they don't know each other at all. The optimal mix is of "weak ties". It seems to me that there are probably other factors there that the study didn't take into account--maybe the age of the team will affect it, or whether they know each other through professional or personal relationships, etc. Maybe this is my statistics class talking, but that theory/study seems a little skewed to me.
