This is an absolutely wonderful thing. It makes me so proud to be part of the theatre world when I read of events like this. It is true that theatre should be able to reach all audiences no matter who they are or what disability they might have. And what a great show to begin with. The Lion King already has vast amounts of visual stimulation past that of "normal" theatre and is also geared towards a younger audience to begin with. With so much positive response, I do hope that more events like this pop up across the country.
I agree-- its great that a lot is being taken into consideration for kids with autism, I think it's an even healthy environment for any child with or without autism as well. My mom always told me that when I was a tiny four year old, I was terrified of the Lion king, because of Scar, but ended up loving it a good while after. And I'm happy I learned to love it- the colors of the movie itself are phenomenal.. making going to see the Broadway show even more breathtaking! It's good to know that such a show won't be so terrifying for children, especially those who might be sensitive to loud noises, so they can enjoy the visuals and the story without all the fright!
