I think this sounds like a great program they have set up here. Although it would be a lot more beneficial if the program lasted for more than a week, it seems like they set out to provide a wide range of opportunities while you are there. It is also available at an incredibly reasonable price. For airfare, a place to stay, all the workshops and all the industry showcases, it only costs $650. However, like happens in many cases, technicians are left out of participating in this great opportunity. I think it would be very beneficial if they expanded the program to include everyone in the industry. It would create quite a different environment, one that gave you an insight on every side of theatre.
This article reminds me years ago when the CIA and the FBI announced they were going to start sharing all their intelligence information with each other in an effort to fight terrorism. Much of the country's response wasn't, "Good for you!" it was, "What the @#^%$&#?! You guys mean you HAVEN'T been all this time??!!!" I'm happy there's an actual plan in place to start this "sharing of talent" but I can't seem to help thinking, "Why the hell haven't we been doing this for a century?"
